Enough

Xabi says I love you, Stevie answers I'm pissed off.

Stevie doesn't know what those words mean on Xabi's lips. He doesn't. For him they mean the person who loves you will never leave you alone, but Xabi went away. He went away, he went home, to Spain. So, yeah, Stevie is pissed.

The problem is he doesn't know if he's more pissed with Xabi or himself, for letting him leave.


Now Xabi is silent, and Stevie pictures his face. The closed eyes, the clenched jaw and the lips in a thin line.

He understands Xabi is trying, trying so hard to keep them close, even through a phone, even from far away. He would like not to understand it, that way hating him would be easy. But he does.

I love you. I would have never wanted to have to leave you alone.

And for Stevie, for today that's enough.

this is lovely! brief but so poignant. For him they mean the person who loves you will never leave you alone, but Xabi went away. oof, what a punch.

tiny translation nitpick: he went home to Spain, not in Spain. English always uses "to" for motion towards, it doesn't use "in" like Italian does.
